Advanced Biomedical Technology awarded Taiwan Government Grant

Advanced Biomedical Technology Inc. (ABT) is a start-up who specialized in developing medical-grade filaments with superior quality and manageable bio-degradation time exclusively for Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) system. It is explicitly used for manufacturing medical implants and other implantable medical devices. Besides, total solution via project-base cooperation is also provided to efficiently introduce comprehensive manufacturing procedures into business.

Recently, ABT has received an award of “2018 Intra-industry Integration Biomedical Leaps Forward Program” from the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) of Taiwan. The development and commercialization of ABT’s novel additive manufacturing (AM) system for biodegradable orthopedic implant has been greatly enhanced with the support from the program. 

Using additive manufacturing to produce biodegradable orthopedic implant is considerably challenging, factors including materials’ properties, manufacturing system, and how to comply with the regulatory requirements of the customized medical implant is vitally important. said Dr. Chun-Hung Chen, CEO of ABT. Additive manufacturing is becoming a mature way to manufacture customized orthopedic metal implant, however, ABTs vision is the future of the orthopedic implant market. ABTs novel AM system aims at providing a next-generation total solution for 3D printing of biodegradable orthopedic implant. A customized biodegradable implant instead of the non-degradable one could profoundly enhance the clinical experience of a patient, which avoids a second surgery and  could have resulted in better wound healing.
